The graphic exhibition “Plyos of the 80s” at the Landscape Museum, where visitors can touch the artistic heritage of Dmitry Vladimirovich Afanasyev's Plyos period (1928-1988) — an outstanding theatrical artist, member of the Union of Artists of Russia, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, and professor at the Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music, and Cinematography.
Once in Plyos for sketches, Afanasyev left his creative mark here. His works, capturing scenes of everyday life, were made with ballpoint pens, markers, and colored pencils in 1981 and 1986. These drawings, masterfully conveying the atmosphere of Plyos — a quiet corner or bustling with tourists during the arrival of riverboats — became a kind of chronicle of the last decade of Soviet times.
Today, many of Afanasyev's works are in private collections, and some details of his stay in Plyos are lost. But the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see his sketches, which immerse us in the unique world of this town in the 1980s. The exhibition is complemented by graphic works of Ivanovo artists from the collection of the Plyos Museum-Reserve, creating a complete sense of the artistic appearance of Plyos of those years.
