How to get to Plyos from Nizhny Novgorod

Where is Plyos
Plyos is located in the Ivanovo region, in the Privolzhsky district, on the right bank of the Volga River. The town is situated in the northern part of the region, on the Volga hills, at the mouth of the small Shokhonka River.
The nearest district center is Privolzhsk, about 16 km away. The regional center Ivanovo is about 69 km away, and Moscow is approximately 350–380 km away by road, depending on the route.
Distance and travel time Nizhny Novgorod — Plyos
The distance from Nizhny Novgorod to Plyos by road is 285 km, and in a straight line - 200 km. The estimated travel time between the cities of Nizhny Novgorod and Plyos by car is 4 hours and 22 minutes.
By car
The distance from Nizhny Novgorod to Plyos depends on the chosen route. The shortest path is 290 km and takes 4.5 hours. Depending on the route chosen, you will pass through the cities of Kovrov-Shuya-Ivanovo or Yuryevets-Kineshma.
Keep in mind that during the tourist season, car traffic is restricted in the historical part of Plyos. There is a checkpoint with a barrier at the main entrance, and other entrances are blocked. You will most likely have to leave your car in one of the parking lots (some paid) and walk to the Volga. We wrote more about this on the page how to get to Plyos by car.
By train
You can only travel by train to the cities of Furmanov (35 km from Plyos) and Ivanovo (70 km from Plyos). The ticket price starts at 500 rubles (seated). The travel time to Furmanov is about 7 hours, to Ivanovo about 5 hours.
However, the train arrives at these stations only late in the evening, so you will need to either order a taxi to Plyos or stay overnight in these cities to leave for Plyos by bus in the morning.
By bus
There are no direct bus routes from Nizhny Novgorod to Plyos. You will need to make one transfer in the city of Privolzhsk, 15 km from Plyos.
- Take the Nizhny Novgorod - Kostroma bus to reach the city of Privolzhsk. The journey takes about 6 hours. The fare starts at 1200 rubles.
- Note that the bus usually does not enter Privolzhsk itself. You will need to get off at the "turn" stop near Privolzhsk, and then take a taxi to the bus station to catch a bus to Plyos. The local taxi number is +7 (49339) 3-43-44. You can order a car directly to Plyos, which will be more convenient!
- Buses from Privolzhsk run every 1-2 hours. The ticket price starts at 60 rubles. The journey takes about 30 minutes.
Keep in mind that tickets for interregional bus routes are purchased with a passport!
Be aware that buses are crowded during the high season. Buy tickets in advance. We recommend purchasing a return ticket upon arrival in Plyos at the bus station ticket office or online to ensure you have a seat and can leave safely!
