The Landscape Museum invites you to visit the new exhibition "The Splendor of the Dark Ages," prepared in collaboration with the Natural Architectural and Archaeological Museum-Reserve "Divnogorye" (Voronezh region). The exhibition features archaeological finds from the Saltovo-Mayaki culture sites, including the Mayaki archaeological complex, dating from the late 8th to early 10th century.
The exposition immerses visitors in the atmosphere of early medieval Eastern Europe — an era of the formation of new states, among which the Khazar Khaganate (second half of the 7th — 10th centuries) stands out. This multi-ethnic union of peoples left behind a rich material heritage, evidence of which — from fragments of pottery to traces of stone fortifications — is presented in the exhibition.
A special place is given to jewelry and ornaments — they not only reflect the craftsmanship of the time but also allow a glimpse into the world of symbols, beliefs, and aesthetic preferences of the ancient population. Visitors will see glass and stone beads brought from the Northern Black Sea region, amulets associated with the spiritual beliefs of the Alans and Proto-Bulgarians, as well as elements of women's costumes and decorative clothing details.
The interactive part of the exhibition includes tactile replicas of artifacts, allowing visitors to literally touch the past. The atmosphere of the "dark ages" is complemented by quotes from medieval chroniclers and photographs telling about the modern process of archaeological research.
