Walks through the places that inspired Levitan
Isaac Levitan had a challenging life: early loss of parents, lack of a diploma after finishing school, failures in love, and constant doubts about his own talent. But it was in Plyos that he found that rare peace of mind, which he called the happiest time of his life. Svetlana Smirnova, a native of Plyos, invites you to walk through the places where the great artist found inspiration, to feel the very atmosphere that filled his best canvases.
During the walk, you will visit the secluded corners where his famous works were born — “Quiet Abode,” “Evening Bell,” “Above Eternal Peace,” and “Birch Grove.” You will climb Cathedral Hill, from where you can see the views celebrated in his works, see Levitan Hill, stroll through the historic Trade Square and along the picturesque embankment, enjoying the quiet Volga landscapes. Svetlana will show you reproductions of paintings right at the places where they were painted, so you can see Plyos through the eyes of the great artist.
Plyos is a city where the ability to find happiness in simple things has become a way of life. Svetlana will help you slow down, feel the rhythm of the city, and, like Levitan, see the hidden harmony and beauty in familiar landscapes.
The tour is ideal for adults and children. Thanks to Svetlana's pedagogical experience, even the youngest participants will be engaged in the amazing story of the artist's life and work. For children, the walk turns into a real journey through the pages of history and art — with legends, riddles, and interactive tasks.
