Excursion to the Jewel of the Volga
Plyos is a picturesque town on the steep bank of the Volga, known as the jewel of the great river, the emerald of the north, and the Russian Switzerland. Founded in the first half of the 12th century as a fortress town, it has evolved from a defensive outpost to a trading center, industrial city, and renowned resort. Today, Plyos is an open-air museum-reserve, celebrated for the paintings of Isaac Levitan.
On this tour, led by an experienced guide, guests will visit the iconic sites of the town: climb Cathedral Hill to admire the Volga expanses, stroll through the old streets of Zarechye, and see the 19th-century merchant mansions on the Plyos embankment. This is a journey through a town that inspired great artists and still retains its unique charm.
