Excursion to the Jewel of the Volga

Plyos is a picturesque town on the steep bank of the Volga, known as the jewel of the great river, the emerald of the north, and the Russian Switzerland. Founded in the first half of the 12th century as a fortress town, it has evolved from a defensive outpost to a trading center, industrial city, and renowned resort. Today, Plyos is an open-air museum-reserve, celebrated for the paintings of Isaac Levitan.

He worked for over 15 years at the Plyos Museum-Reserve, where he headed the excursion department from 2011 to 2017.
